Spirit Airlines Among the Top U.S. Airlines for On-Time Performance in Summer 2025

September 16, 2025

Ranked ahead of seven of the largest U.S. carriers, including the majority of legacy competitors

DANIA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 16, 2025 Spirit Airlines showcased its commitment to reliability and operational excellence by rising to the top of the ranks for on-time performance this summer, based on Department of Transportation (DOT) data for domestic flights in June, July and August. Spirit outperformed many of the high-cost airlines this summer, coming in third overall for on-time performance among all 10 largest U.S. carriers and outperforming the majority of U.S. legacy carriers. Spirit operated more than 51,000 domestic flights during the three-month period, flying Americans to see the people and places they care about most across dozens of destinations.

“Our Guests don’t have to choose between a reliable airline and a great value when Spirit delivers both,” said John Bendoraitis, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Spirit Airlines. “As we prepare for the holiday season, travelers can count on us to get them to where they want to go, without paying top dollar to fly there. Thank you to our Spirit Team for their commitment to running a great operation and taking care of our Guests every day.”

The airline’s enhanced operational performance extends beyond the summer. Spirit currently ranks third for on-time performance among all U.S. carriers year-to-date, surpassing last year’s on-time performance by six percentage points. The carrier’s continued reliability and operational excellence come as Spirit’s current net promoter score, a metric used to measure Guest satisfaction, is the highest in its history.

Results are based on Spirit's data compared to major and regional U.S. airlines. Official monthly performance results are published in the DOT’s Air Travel Consumer Reports. The DOT uses A14 to measure on-time performance, an industry metric for flights arriving within 14 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.
